UK Opens Final India Young Professionals Ballot on July 21 as 3,000 Visa Quota Nears Full Capacity

Young Indians hoping to live and work in the UK this year have one last chance. The UK Home Office will open the second and final ballot for the India Young Professionals Scheme (IYPS) from July 21 to July 23, 2026, with the remaining places from this year’s 3,000-visa quota up for grabs.

The free ballot opens at 1:30 PM IST on July 21 and closes at 1:30 PM IST on July 23. Successful applicants can apply for a visa that allows them to live, work, study, and travel across the UK for up to 24 months.

Who Can Apply?

Indian passport holders can enter the ballot if they:

  • Are aged 18 to 30 years
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Have at least £2,530 in savings
  • Do not have children under 18 whom they live with or financially support

Entering the ballot is free. Those selected will have 90 days to submit their visa application, pay the £340 visa fee, the Immigration Health Surcharge, and complete biometric formalities.

Most Places Already Filled

The UK has allocated 3,000 places under the India Young Professionals Scheme for 2026. Most were offered during the February ballot, leaving only the remaining places available in this final July round.

Competition is expected to remain high. The scheme has quickly become one of the most sought-after UK mobility routes for young Indian graduates looking for international work experience without securing an employer-sponsored visa first.

How the India-UK Scheme Works

Unlike most UK work visas, the India Young Professionals Scheme begins with a random ballot. Only those selected can proceed with the visa application.

Interestingly, the arrangement is not identical on both sides. While the UK uses a ballot to manage demand, India’s reciprocal programme allows eligible UK citizens to apply year-round for the Employment Visa (E-1) without entering a lottery.

That difference reflects a wider trend: countries are increasingly using ballots to control demand for popular mobility programmes while keeping skilled migration pathways open.

Why It Matters for Indians

For eligible young Indians, this remains one of the few UK visa routes that offers temporary work rights without requiring a UK employer to sponsor the application.

The visa also gives successful applicants flexibility to explore career opportunities after arriving, making it particularly attractive for recent graduates and early-career professionals from major Indian cities with direct UK flight connections such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad.

The announcement also comes as the India-UK trade agreement takes effect, with both countries expected to deepen mobility cooperation in the coming years.

Travelobiz Take

We see this as one of the best UK mobility options available to young Indian graduates. If you meet the eligibility rules, entering the free ballot is absolutely worth the effort.
