Lifestyle Desk – While the rainy season brings relief from the heat, it also brings with it many hair problems. During this time, hair starts becoming weak due to increased humidity in the air, sweat and dirt accumulated on the scalp. As a result, a tuft of broken hair becomes visible while washing or combing the hair. Many people ignore it considering it to be a normal seasonal change, while some resort to expensive hair care products. However, according to Ayurveda, Tulsi, which is easily available at home, can also prove helpful in hair care in this season.
Tulsi has long been known for its medicinal properties. The antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal elements present in it are considered helpful in keeping the scalp clean and protecting it from infection. During the rainy season, when the problem of stickiness and dandruff increases on the scalp, then proper use of basil can help in keeping the scalp healthy.
How can basil be beneficial for hair?
According to Ayurvedic beliefs, Tulsi helps in cleansing the scalp and can be helpful in reducing excess oil and dirt. This provides a better environment to the hair roots. Additionally, its natural properties can also help reduce the risk of itching and mild fungal infections, which are common problems during monsoons.
Use basil like this
Basil Hair Pack: Wash and grind 10-15 fresh basil leaves and mix 2-3 spoons of curd in it. Apply this mixture on hair roots and scalp for 20-30 minutes. After this wash hair with mild shampoo. It can be used once a week.
Basil water: Boil a handful of basil leaves in water for 10 minutes. When the water cools down, filter it and use it as the final rinse after washing hair. This can make the scalp feel refreshed and help reduce stickiness.
Basil and coconut oil: Lightly heat some basil leaves in coconut oil. When the oil cools down, filter it and massage the scalp gently 1-2 times a week. This can provide nourishment to the scalp.
Not only Tulsi, keep these things in mind also
Do not leave hair wet for long during the rainy season. Dry hair as soon as possible after getting wet. Avoid using dirty or very tight hair accessories and eat a balanced diet, rich in protein, iron and vitamins. Drinking enough water is also important for hair health.
When should one contact a doctor?
If hair is falling more than usual, there is severe itching, redness, wounds or persistent dandruff on the scalp, then it is better to consult a dermatologist instead of relying only on home remedies. Continuously increasing hairfall can also be a sign of hormonal changes, nutritional deficiency or some other health problem.
Making basil a part of hair care routine can be a natural option during the rainy season. However, it is not a miracle cure and its effects may vary depending on the condition of the person’s scalp and hair problems. Hair can be kept healthy only with regular care, balanced diet and expert advice if needed.
