When the first note of music was born from the veena, it resonated through the air. Drawing inspiration from this idea, this year's edition of Swarnanjali—part of BC Sen Jewellers' 138th anniversary celebrations, held at the Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium—was themed Vaayuvani.Conceived around the journey of music through a medium that carries every note, the evening brought together two-time Grammy-winning bansuri maestro Pt Rakesh Chaurasia , his ensemble Rakesh and Friends, and celebrated vocalist Mahalaxmi Iyer . Moving seamlessly between Hindustani classical, contemporary arrangements and beloved film songs, the concert explored how melody transcends genres while remaining rooted in the elemental force that brings every performance alive.

A musical tapestry

Pt Rakesh Chaurasia’s ensemble comprised Sanjoy Das on acoustic guitar, Satyajit Talwalkar on tabla, Sangeet Haldipur on keyboards and vocals, Sheldon D’Silva on bass, and Gino Banks on drums. Alongside Mahalaxmi Iyer’s versatile vocals, they created a rich soundscape, moving effortlessly from Hindustani classical to contemporary fusion and popular melodies, highlighting the seamless interplay between tradition and innovation.
