Trinamool Congress (TMC) President Mamata Banerjee suffered two major setbacks in two days. On Wednesday, MLA Madan Mitra and on Thursday Rajya Sabha MP Rukmini Malik resigned from their posts. While Madan Mitra has joined the rebel faction of TMC, Rukmini has met BJP leader and Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav. It is believed that Rukmini may join BJP.

This is the first reaction of former CM Mamata Banerjee after Rukmini’s resignation. She said, ‘I appeal to all those leaders who want to change sides under pressure… they should do so before July 21. Don’t defame our party. Let us tell you that TMC is busy preparing for ‘Martyr’s Day’ rally on 21st July.

Reacting to Rukmini Malik’s resignation, Mamata Banerjee said, ‘I met an MP. I respect him. He had already given the information through email. Today he met a BJP leader. Those who are under pressure can take whatever decision and go wherever they want before 21st July Martyr’s Day. Our Constitution gives us the right to work as per our wish.

Rukmini Malik is also known as Koel Malik. On Thursday, he met Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan and submitted his resignation to him. Now the number of TMC MPs in Rajya Sabha is reduced to 9. Let us tell you that in the month of March this year itself, Koel Malik became an actor and leader. In April, he took oath as a Rajya Sabha member.

Koyal is the fourth Rajya Sabha MP from Trinamool Congress to resign. Before him, three other Rajya Sabha MPs have also resigned and joined BJP. BJP has made all three candidates from their own vacant seats. No nomination has been filed against him yet. If no nomination is filed by Friday afternoon, then these three leaders will become Rajya Sabha members unopposed for the second time.
