Actress Tillotama Shome who was recently seen in the Sunny Deol and Akshay Khanna starrer courtroom drama, shared her thoughts on the eight-hour work shifts in the film industry . She feels that the conversation should be focused on the real problems faced by people at work.
Tillotama Shome shares her viewsWhile speaking with NDTV, Tillotama Shome mentioned that the issue is not only about women. She said that many men and women in the industry work different hours depending on their position. “Twelve hours is the minimum shift expected of us when you start out in the industry, and I have seen many senior colleagues work for fewer hours. It's in their contract. No one has talked about that. So let's first get the facts,” she said.
Tillotama Shome speaks about power and working hours Tillotama said actors who have become successful can decide how many hours they want to work because they have more bargaining power. She added that this has been happening for many years.
“You can use your position. Using your star power, you can decide how many hours you want to work. This has been going on for a very long time. So I really don’t understand why suddenly this became a topic of conversation when Deepika asked,” she added.
During the same conversation she shared that some production houses expect people to work for more than 12 hours which she believes is not fair. She said that younger actors often cannot refuse because they are still building their careers.
She added that everyone deserves dignity at work, and long shifts also affect the crew, who usually continue working even after the actors leave the set.
For the unversed, the debate began when Deepika Padukone exited two major films including ‘Kalki 2898 AD 2’ and ‘Spirit’ over eight hours work shift.
