Manchester United have undertaken significant restructuring in their youth goalkeeping department this summer.

Earlier this month, a BBC report revealed that Swansea City’s young shot-stopper Kit Margetson is on the verge of joining the Red Devils. The Wales Under-21 international is expected to be loaned to an EFL club for the upcoming season to further his progress in senior football.

Additionally, United parted company with one of the most promising goalkeepers in their youth ranks earlier in the summer.

In June, reports indicated that Spanish goalkeeper Darlington Osuchukwu had decided to leave Manchester United.

The 16-year-old, who stands at 6 feet 4 inches, was a key figure for United’s Under-16 side and even trained with the first team on a few occasions. However, the Gazte Berriak academy graduate was eager to return to Spain, having moved to Manchester at the age of 13.

According to The Secret Scout, a well-regarded source for youth football and transfer information, Osuchukwu has now chosen his next destination.

The former United youngster has reportedly agreed to join La Liga outfit Athletic Club.

“Athletic Bilbao have completed the signing of 16-year-old Darlington Osuchukwu from Manchester United after his contract ended on 30th June,” The Secret Scout posted on X.

Earlier today, Osuchukwu shared a farewell message on Instagram, writing: “After four unforgettable years at this incredible club, I have made the incredibly difficult decision to move on and embrace a new challenge.”

He added: “This was not a decision my family and I took lightly. While I was grateful for the opportunity to continue my journey here, we believe the time is right to begin a new chapter.”

Meanwhile, there has also been movement in United’s senior goalkeeping department.

The club announced the signing of Karl Darlow, who joins Old Trafford as a free agent following his departure from fierce rivals Leeds United. Like Margetson, Darlow is Welsh and is expected to serve as Senne Lammens’ deputy under manager Michael Carrick.
