KNEWS DEKSK- A big update to Leave Travel Concession i.e. LTC has come out for central government employees. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has issued new guidelines for officers and employees traveling by air under LTC. According to the new rules, now to get LTC advance, employees will have to apply at least 30 days before the commencement of the journey.
The government has taken this step to control the rising expenses due to last-minute booking of air tickets. The department says that in many cases, employees book tickets very close to the date of journey, due to which the fare becomes very high and puts additional burden on the government funds.
DoPT issued new circular
The Cash Section of the Department of Personnel and Training under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has issued a new official circular on 16 July 2026. In this, necessary instructions have been given to the employees regarding planning and advance payment of air travel under LTC. The department has directed all officers and employees to plan LTC travel in advance and complete the process of ticket booking and advance application within the stipulated time.
As per the new instructions, government employees have been advised to book tickets for air travel under LTC at least 21 days in advance. By doing this, employees will get the option of low fare flights and government expenditure will also reduce. The department has said that booking tickets at the last minute often increases the fare significantly, which increases unnecessary financial burden.
If an employee wishes to take advance amount for air travel under LTC, he will have to apply at least 30 days before the date of travel. Along with the application, the employee will also have to submit a printout containing flight and fare information from the website of the authorized travel agency. It is important to have complete details of the flight and fare of the proposed journey.
It will be mandatory to follow the rules
In the circular issued by DoPT, it is clearly stated that these instructions will have to be strictly followed. The department has informed all concerned officers and employees about this through the e-office portal. The government aims to make the LTC travel process more streamlined and reduce unnecessary expenditure on air tickets. After the implementation of the new rules, employees will have to plan their travel in advance.
