Environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk’s fast at Jantar Mantar continues for the 20th day today. Wangchuk, who is adamant on his demands,’s health remains a matter of concern, but his spirits are still high. On Friday, Congress MP Pawan Kheda also reached Jantar Mantar to meet him and inquire about his well being. Even before this, many big leaders of the opposition have shown their support for him.

Meanwhile, a video of Sonam Wangchuk is becoming increasingly viral on social media, in which she is seen in a very different style. Wangchuk said smilingly, “I will, under any circumstances, remain alive till July 20, so that I can march with you all to the Parliament. And if our march on July 20 is not successful, then I will come back as a ghost.” This militant and light-hearted statement of his has been considered by his supporters as a big message, which shows that he is not going to back down from his fight.

The effect of fasting started appearing on the body

The 20 consecutive days of hunger strike is now directly affecting Wangchuk’s health. According to Dr. Satish Lamba, who is monitoring his health, Wangchuk’s weight has dropped rapidly to 56.55 kg. In just the last 24 hours his weight has further reduced by 350 grams. Doctors say that mild dehydration has been seen in his body. Although the water level is normal at the moment, the medical team has warned that prolonged starvation could have a serious impact on their vital organs.

Insistence on resignation of Education Minister

Sonam Wangchuk and the members of ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ present with her are attacking the central government over the alleged paper leak case. Their main demand is the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The protesters say that the government will have to take strict and concrete steps to bring transparency and accountability in the country’s examination system. Many opposition parties including Congress and Samajwadi Party have also extended their support to this movement. Now all eyes are on the ‘Parliament March’ proposed on July 20, through which Wangchuk is preparing to give an even bigger shape to his fight.
