Tyler Fredricson Set to Miss Manchester United vs Wrexham Friendly Amid Imminent Transfer

Promising young centre-back Tyler Fredricson appears to have played his final match for Manchester United.

When the club revealed their 25-man travelling squad for the upcoming friendly against Wrexham in Helsinki on Saturday, many observers were quick to note Fredricson’s absence from the list.

With most senior players still on post‑World Cup breaks, this pre-season period was viewed as a golden opportunity for United’s younger prospects to stake their claim for a place in Michael Carrick’s plans. Fredricson was among those expected to use the occasion to reignite his Old Trafford career.

During the 2024/25 season, as the Red Devils dealt with a number of injuries, the 21‑year‑old stepped up to become a reliable option under manager Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese boss described him as a composed, ball‑playing defender. Fredricson made four league appearances that campaign, displaying flashes of genuine potential.

However, opportunities were limited last season. Despite consistently training with the first team, he managed just a single senior appearance throughout the year.

In January, a loan move to Celtic was reportedly close, but a calf injury derailed the plan, forcing him to remain at Old Trafford.

Now, a permanent exit seems likely. In his BBC column, journalist Simon Stone wrote:

“Defender Tyler Fredricson is not involved either before what is expected to be a permanent summer move away from Old Trafford. Europe is seen as a likely destination for the 21‑year‑old, whose proposed switch to Celtic in January fell through after he was injured before it could be completed.”

It remains to be seen where Fredricson’s next step lies, though it is unfortunate that his Manchester United journey never truly gained momentum.

Nevertheless, with emerging talents such as Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven pushing through, United’s defensive options look strong. Should the pair fulfil their potential, the backline appears well‑set for the future.

Fredricson is not the only defender linked with a move away this summer. Noussair Mazraoui has reportedly attracted interest from AC Milan, while young full‑back Harry Amass is also expected to depart, albeit likely on a loan basis.
