8th Pay Commission: The process regarding the 8th Pay Commission's recommendations is underway, and employees are concerned about the ongoing delays. Meanwhile, the West Bengal government has constituted a nine-member high-level committee, entrusting its leadership to retired Justice Ranjana Desai. This news has once again created a stir among employees and pensioners.
What is the matter?
Recently, the West Bengal government formed a nine-member high-level expert committee to review the draft of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) 2026, appointing retired Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai to lead it. This development has caused a ripple of concern among employee groups from Delhi to Kolkata.
What is the cause for concern?
Justice Ranjana Desai is already the Chairperson of the 8th Central Pay Commission. Consequently, some employees worry that this new responsibility might slow down the Pay Commission's work and delay the submission of its report. However, neither the Central Government nor the 8th Pay Commission has issued any statement suggesting that this new assignment will impact the Commission's operations; thus, for now, these concerns remain merely apprehensions held by the employees.
NPS Employees' Union Responds
Manjit Singh Patel, National President of the All India NPS Employees' Federation, shared a post on social media regarding this issue. While congratulating Justice Desai on her new responsibility, he also raised a question on behalf of the employees: will this affect the timely submission of the 8th Pay Commission's report? It is worth noting that lakhs of central government employees and pensioners are currently awaiting the commission's recommendations. All eyes are on when the commission will submit its report and what hike in salaries and pensions it will recommend. Continuous meetings of the commission are currently underway, generating considerable optimism among the employees.
