PIB Fact Check has now revealed the truth behind this viral story. PIB shared a screenshot of the letter via its official X (Twitter) account, clearly marking it as 'FAKE'. This means the claim is completely baseless. The caption accompanying the post reads: "A letter purportedly from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is going viral on the internet. It claims that a refundable tax of ₹7,500 must be paid to receive a stuck amount of ₹1,00,000."
It further states: "According to PIB Fact Check, this letter is fake. The RBI never contacts the general public via unsolicited phone calls or emails to request money or any personal information. If you have fallen victim to such a scam, please lodge a complaint with local law enforcement agencies (the police)." Rely only on authentic sources.
