Social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar for the past 21 days, was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi police on Saturday. In light of this situation, Wangchuk's wife, Geetanjali J. Angmo, has issued a stern warning to the hospital administration and authorities.

In an interview, Angmo stated that she is currently at Safdarjung Hospital and made her position clear. She emphasized that no medication or treatment should be administered to Wangchuk without her consent. She insisted that any medical intervention should not commence without her approval, and if anything untoward occurs during this time, she would hold everyone accountable.

Angmo also questioned the police's decision to admit her husband to the hospital, noting that he appeared to be in good health on Friday and there was no immediate need for hospitalization. Citing Article 32, she argued that administering any medical treatment without her and her doctor’s consent would be inappropriate.

On the other hand, Delhi police defended their actions, stating that Wangchuk was taken to the hospital following expert medical advice and directives from the Delhi High Court. They clarified that this step was taken to ensure he receives necessary medical care. Additionally, the police urged those protesting at Jantar Mantar to vacate the area and end their demonstration promptly.

Before his hospitalization, Wangchuk reiterated his commitment in a video message released on Friday night. He acknowledged that while his health is deteriorating, he intends to continue his hunger strike. He revealed that he has lost 20% of his body weight due to the fast and stressed the importance of the government listening to the voices of the youth.

Since June 28, Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike in support of the Cockroach People's Party (CAZPA) movement, demanding action regarding alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and the related deaths of students. The Delhi High Court has been closely monitoring Wangchuk's health and has ordered regular medical check-ups.
