The land of Mexico trembled today due to the tremors of a tremendous earthquake. This devastating earthquake that occurred on the southern Pacific coast near the Guatemala border on Friday has created fear not only in Mexico but also in El Salvador. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake’s magnitude was measured between 7.3 and 7.4, with its epicenter being 48 kilometers southwest of Aquiles Cerdán, near the Chiapas coast.
Danger of tsunami, administration keeps a close watch on coastal areas
Considering the magnitude of the earthquake, the administration has issued a tsunami warning. Suchiate city mayor Elmer Vazquez Gallardo said coastal areas have been put on high alert in view of any possible danger from sea waves. In major cities like Tapachula, the first tremors were mild, but soon they became so strong that people had to come out of their homes and offices.

Sharing her experience of the earthquake, hospital employee Alejandra Mendoza said that initially she thought it was a minor movement, but the intensity of the tremors increased so much that she immediately had to come out of the building and take shelter in the open field. People are in panic from Guatemala City to Mexico City. There have also been reports of cracks in many buildings in Mexico City. However, it is a matter of relief that at present no major loss of life or property has been reported.
Officials say that they are constantly monitoring the situation. Although the earthquake alert system was not very strong in the first few moments, but the effect of the tremors was so long and intense that the breathing of common people stopped. At present, relief and rescue teams are ready in the affected areas.
