Manjit Singh, 58, from Punjab’s Fazilka district, ignored chest pain for several weeks as normal fatigue. But when the problem continued to worsen and he became short of breath even after walking a little, he got a medical checkup. During the tests, it was found that there was a severe blockage in the coronary artery of his heart. Taking immediate action, the doctors shifted him to the Cath Lab and performed angioplasty and put a stent, which saved his life.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) report, cardiovascular diseases have emerged as the leading cause of death in India in the last three decades.

Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh’s appeal to the public
Health and Family Welfare Minister of Punjab Dr. Balbir Singh said that heart diseases are currently the biggest public health challenge. He urged people not to ignore the following early symptoms at all:
- Constant pain or heaviness in the chest.
- Shortness of breath on slight movement or work.
- Feeling unusually tired and weak for no reason.
- Pain spreading from the chest to the arms, jaw, neck or back.
The Minister of Health clarified, “No family will have to delay treatment due to lack of money. We are fully committed to bring quality healthcare to every eligible family.”
