According to a report from Sky Germany, Jürgen Klopp has now received the final approval to become the next head coach of the German national football team, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann following Germany’s underwhelming performance at the 2026 World Cup.
For months, Klopp has been the leading candidate for the position, with the main obstacle being the need for an agreement between the German Football Association (DFB) and Red Bull. Klopp, who previously managed Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, currently serves as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull.
That issue now appears to be resolved, with reports indicating that a full deal has been struck for Klopp to take charge of the national team through to the 2030 World Cup. An agreement in principle has also been reached between the DFB and Red Bull regarding the terms of his departure.
Sources suggest that Klopp met with Red Bull chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff at a confidential location in New York on Saturday, where the remaining details of his exit were finalised. The final contractual paperwork between Klopp and his commercial partners is expected to be completed in writing after Sunday’s World Cup final.
If all goes according to plan, Klopp will officially sign his contract in Frankfurt on Friday. The DFB is also expected to formally introduce him as Germany’s new head coach later that day, followed by a press conference to mark the announcement.
