The NTA has concluded its investigation into the OMR sheet controversy. The agency addressed cases where candidates had alleged discrepancies in their OMR sheets and significant variations in their scores.
NEET OMR Sheet Controversy: The NTA has completed its inquiry into the OMR sheet controversy that emerged following the NEET-UG results. The investigation revealed that one of the OMR sheets in question was a fake document created with the help of AI, while the other case involved a tampered document. Consequently, the NTA clarified that legal action would be taken against individuals who submit fake or AI-generated documents in an attempt to discredit the examination process.
How did the controversy begin?
After the results were declared, a student from Pune, Maharashtra, claimed to have received two different OMR sheets. According to the student, he downloaded one OMR sheet from the NTA website on the night of July 13, while the second one was received via email on July 15. Although both sheets bore his name, the recorded answers differed. The student’s father claimed that matching the first OMR sheet with the official answer key resulted in a score of 707, whereas the declared result showed only 217 marks. Similarly, another student from the Beed district of Maharashtra alleged that he was awarded 95 marks in the official scorecard, despite his score calculated against the final answer key being 522.
What did the investigation reveal?
Following the investigation into both cases, the NTA stated that the OMR sheet submitted by the Pune student was entirely generated using AI. In the case of the Beed student, the agency found that the submitted document had been tampered with. According to the agency, the investigation revealed that the documents did not match the original OMR sheets.
NTA Warns of Legal Action
Following the investigation, the NTA issued a statement on its official social media platform, X, noting that it is continuously monitoring and investigating all complaints. The NTA has urged students and parents to submit only the original OMR sheets for verification. The agency stated that legal action could be taken against any complainant who files a complaint based on a fake or AI-generated OMR sheet. Amidst this, the Congress party has also alleged irregularities regarding a candidate’s marksheet. The party claimed that one candidate’s OMR sheet was swapped with that of another and raised questions directed at the Central Government and the Ministry of Education regarding the matter.
Complaints Reported from Several States
The OMR controversy was not limited to Maharashtra; candidates from other states, including Karnataka, also alleged that the marks reflected in their final results did not match the scores calculated based on the final answer key. Some candidates claimed that the reduction in their marks led to a significant shift in their All India Rank. Affected students demanded clarification from the NTA and called for transparency in the evaluation process.
