New Delhi: Trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Uday Krishna Reddy is battling for his life in critical condition at a private hospital in S.R. Nagar, Hyderabad, following an attempted suicide.

The incident occurred shortly after he was suspended from training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (NPA).

Allegations and Investigation

The disciplinary action and police case stem from a formal complaint filed by a married female trainee IPS officer hailing from Karnataka. According to the complaint lodged with the Attapur police, Reddy allegedly:

• Sent explicit and obscene messages repeatedly.

• Confined the complainant in a room, physically assaulted her by pulling her hair and choking her neck, and threatened her with a knife.

• Secretly recorded private videos of the victim and used them to blackmail her by sending the clips to her husband.

Following the complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act. An internal inquiry committee set up by the NPA reviewed CCTV footage and other corroborating evidence, leading to his temporary suspension from officer training and a formal summons for police questioning.

Background and final post

Reddy’s career path was previously regarded as a story of resilience. Raised by his grandmother, who worked as a manual laborer after he was orphaned at a young age, Reddy was selected as a police constable in 2013. He later resigned to pursue civil service exams, clearing the UPSC exam on his fifth attempt with an All India Rank (AIR) of 360 to qualify for the IPS.

Prior to the suicide attempt, Reddy posted a status message on his social media accounts denying all charges, writing, “I have done nothing wrong.”

Local police have launched a further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
