India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is likely to make a comeback for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka to follow after missing out on the third ODI against England due to a knee injury.

Impact injury to the left knee when fielding in the second ODI at Cardiff. Swelling led to initial omission from the final side at Lord's. Hands down the biggest absence in the Indian team.

The BCCI clarified when he failed to show up before the match.

"Jasprit Bumrah had an impact injury on his left knee while fielding in the second ODI in Cardiff. He was not available for selection for the third ODI due to reactive swelling in his left knee."

There hasn't been any confirmation so far that Bumrah's injury is anything serious. It is believed the swelling has caused him to miss the third ODI, and the team will be hoping the pain subsides before the next assignment.

Should his recovery go according to plan, the pacer is probable to make a comeback in India's two-match extended Test series versus Samateronies starting in August at Galle. Though he will need to pass the necessary fitness trials eventually to be eligible for selection.

The first Test will be played at Galle (15 - 19, August) and the second at Colombo (25- 29, August).

Bumrah re-entered the limited-overs side after a long gap that was caused by workload management and fitness issues in the England series. He was in control in both games he played, maintained pressure during the power plays, and kept the run rate in check.

With him out of the third ODI, India lacked control over their pace attack. All the bowlers found it difficult to control the English batsmen as the hosts scored at will throughout the innings.

Bumrah is still India's most significant fast bowler, especially on foreign pitches. Bumrah's health will be under the scanner before the Sri Lanka Tests, and the team will want him available for the crucial red-ball assignment.
