Bangladesh T20I captain under legal issues for impermissible China-tour amid recovery
Cricket Gully | July 20, 2026 9:39 PM CST

The Bangladesh T20I captain, Liton Das, may face disciplinary issues from the Bangladesh Cricket Board for reportedly travelling to China without any prior permission. A report from Cricbuzz said that the board has already show-caused Das for the anomalies for breaching protocols.

Notably, Das was recovering from a calf injury. He was supposed to report to a specialist for his assessment on July 20. For that, he was scheduled to travel to Singapore. However, instead of following that, he traveled to China right after he came back from the Zimbabwe tour.

Following that, the BCB has formally written to Das asking for an official clarification. Notably, this act from Das prohibits the existing protocols of the centrally contracted Bangladeshi players. Cricbuzz quoted a BCB source saying,

“He (Litton) went to China, which the board didn’t take well. The board called him and asked him why and with whose permission."

The Bangladesh captain appeared before the disciplinary committee on Sunday to explain his position. The board has since referred the matter to its medical committee to assess the validity of his statement before making a final decision.

What happened to Litton Das?

The wicketkeeper-batter suffered a Grade 1 calf muscle injury, due to which he has been sidelined from competitive cricket. The injury occured during the third ODI against Australia played in Dhaka.

While batting, Litton suffered a left calf strain and was forced to retire hurt on 48. Although he courageously returned to the crease later in the match to complete a half-century (scoring 58), the strain worsened into a Grade 1 muscle tear.

After that he had to walk off and completely miss the subsequent three-match T20I series against Australia in Chattogram. Litton then traveled to Zimbabwe for the one-off Test match against Zimbabwe and an ODI series.

Initially he was ruled out of the Test match. And then, he failed a crucial fitness test after missing the ODI Series opener on July 6. He was then officially ruled out of the entire three-match ODI series and flew back to Dhaka for rehab

Litton had skipped the Zimbabwe T20Is specifically to play in the LPL after signing as a replacement player for the Galle Gallants. However, because his leg did not heal in time, he had to formally withdraw from the LPL without playing a single match.
