Maulana Fazlur Rehman Slams Pakistan Army: Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on 26 July. In 1990, Pakistan tried to capture Kargil. Then the Indian Army had driven out Pakistani soldiers from Indian soil under Operation Vijay. Senior Pakistani leader and head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman has raised serious questions on the Pakistani Army. He criticized Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir and the military leadership without taking names.

Fazlur Rehman said that till date Pakistan Army has not been able to tell the country how many of its soldiers were killed in the Kargil war. He said that if the army respects its martyrs, then first of all their exact number should be presented to the country. He alleged that instead of taking responsibility for its decisions, the military leadership tries to hide under the cover of martyrs. This statement of Fazlur Rehman has created controversy in Pakistan.

If you want to do politics then take off your uniform

In his speech, Fazlur Rehman said that during the Kargil war, Pakistan was not even ready to accept the bodies of many of its soldiers. He claimed that many bodies remained with the Indian Army and India cremated them as per Islamic rituals. He said that the body of Colonel Sher Khan was also accepted by Pakistan only after pressure from India. According to him, this was not respect for the martyrs but injustice to them.

Recently, in another program also, Fazlur Rehman had targeted the Pakistan Army. He said the army takes salaries from public tax money and then expects people to fight against militants. He clearly said that he will not form any private army. He also said that if the Army wants to do politics then it should first take off its uniform and contest elections. Only then will we know how much support the public gives them.

Who is Maulana Fazlur Rehman?

Maulana Fazlur Rehman is counted among the prominent religious and political leaders of Pakistan. He is the son of late leader Mufti Mahmood, who was the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the 1970s. After the death of his father, he took charge of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam. Later the party split into two and the faction led by him was called JUI-F. He has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan seven times. His party is considered to have a strong base in many areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. He has also long been seen as a leader with radical views and close to the Afghan Taliban.
