Narsinghpur accident: 5 friends died, one injured on the highway

Six friends returning from a picnic in Narsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh, were hit by a speeding heavy vehicle on the highway. Five people died in the accident, while a youth is seriously injured. The police is investigating the matter

Madhya Pradesh: Five youths were killed and one seriously injured in a tragic road accident in Narsinghpur district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday evening. While returning from picnic, all the friends were stopping and taking photographs on the side of National Highway-45, when a speeding heavy vehicle hit them.

Friends were stopping on the side of the highway, then the accident happened

This accident that happened on Sunday evening in Narsinghpur district shocked everyone. According to police, six friends were returning after having a picnic. While returning from Hathinala waterfall located on Narsinghpur-Jabalpur border, he stopped for some time on the side of National Highway-45 near Indira Nagar. According to the local people, all the friends were getting photographs clicked on the roadside when a heavy speeding vehicle hit them.

The accident was so gruesome that a young man died on the spot, while other injured were taken to the hospital. Four more youths died during treatment. A youth is seriously injured in the accident, whose treatment is ongoing.

All deceased residents of Jabalpur district

Police identified the deceased as Rajendra Patel (22), Virendra Lodhi (20), Rampal Singh Lodhi (21), Jaipal Singh Lodhi (30) and Neeraj Singh Lodhi (25). The injured youth has been identified as Akash Singh Lodhi (24). All the youth are said to be residents of Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh.

As soon as information about the incident was received, the police reached the spot and took the injured to the hospital. There is an atmosphere of mourning among the families of the deceased after the accident.

Police busy searching for absconding driver

According to the police, the driver of the heavy vehicle fled from the spot after the accident. At present it is not clear whether a truck, dumper or any other heavy vehicle was involved in the accident. Police are scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the surrounding areas and statements of eyewitnesses are also being recorded.

Officials say all possible angles are being investigated to identify the vehicle and driver. A case has been registered and investigation is ongoing.

The police have also appealed to the people to take special care while stopping on the side of the highway or busy roads. Taking photographs or standing unnecessarily on the roadside can increase the risk of serious accidents. This accident has once again highlighted the need to follow road safety rules.
