A very important issue has arisen for government employees. Currently, discussions are underway between all central government employees and pensioners regarding the Eighth Pay Commission. The Commission is working on formulating recommendations on salaries, allowances, and salary structure. Meanwhile, the National Council-Joint Consultative Missionary (NC-JCM), an employees' organization, has placed some important demands before the Pay Commission.
The organization has demanded changes to the existing pay levels and the merger of some levels, including Levels 2 and 3, Levels 4 and 5, Levels 7 and 8, and Levels 9 and 10.
According to the organization, there isn't much difference between the workload and salary of employees at these levels. Therefore, it would be easier to create a salary structure by merging them rather than having separate levels.
Additionally, there is a demand to simultaneously upgrade employees currently working at Level 5 to Level 6. The organization notes that many employees in the Railways, Postal Services, Defense, and Central Secretariat have been at the same level for years.
The NC-JCM has demanded a basic salary of ₹69,000. It has also proposed an annual salary increase of 6%, up from the current 3%. It also demanded an inflation-linked pay model, a uniform pay matrix, and improvements to the pension system.
