England’s rising star has reportedly already been informed of the position he will occupy in Xabi Alonso’s restructured Chelsea attack.

The England international is on the verge of signing a six-year deal with an option for an additional year, as Chelsea triumph over Premier League champions Arsenal to secure his signature.

Morgan Rogers underwent a medical on Monday ahead of his high-profile transfer to Stamford Bridge, marking a major statement signing for Alonso as he begins his tenure with the Blues.

Discussions between Rogers and Alonso are said to have played a decisive role in the 23-year-old’s choice to join Chelsea, with the player understood to have received assurances he will feature prominently on the left flank.

However, Rogers’ versatility allows him to operate across the front line, giving Alonso the flexibility to remodel Chelsea’s attacking structure.

Building chemistry between Rogers and his former Manchester City teammate Cole Palmer will be essential, and integrating both effectively into the frontline could be key to Chelsea’s attacking success.

Here, Standard Sport examines three tactical ways in which Rogers could be integrated into Chelsea’s starting lineup next season.

Rogers is likely to spend most of his time on the left side of Chelsea’s attack. With Alejandro Garnacho expected to depart this summer, only a year after joining from Manchester United, that position will become vacant.

Last season, roughly 45% of Rogers’ playing time at Aston Villa came from the left wing, where he excelled at cutting inside and curling right-footed efforts into the far corner.

Chelsea have long struggled to find wingers capable of delivering consistent end product, and Rogers represents a significant upgrade with his knack for arriving in scoring positions and finishing efficiently.

Combining strength and technical finesse, Rogers can either drive down the line to create opportunities or cut inside to fashion shooting chances.

His mix of physical presence and technical ability makes him extremely difficult to defend against, injecting much-needed unpredictability into Chelsea’s forward play.

Should Alonso choose to revert to the 3-4-2-1 formation that brought him immense success at Bayer Leverkusen, Rogers and Palmer could form a dynamic partnership behind the central striker.

Like Palmer, Rogers is not afraid to shoot from distance. In fact, he ranked joint-second for goals scored from outside the penalty area (3) in the Premier League last season.

Rogers is also a composed dribbler, capable of carrying the ball under pressure and navigating tight spaces with confidence.

With a fully rested Palmer alongside him, Rogers could help form one of the most dangerous creative duos in the top flight, offering the intelligent third-man runs that have often complemented Palmer’s playmaking vision.

Although long-range shooting has become less common in the Premier League, both Rogers and Palmer possess exceptional striking technique, which could force opposing defences to adjust their approach.

Rogers also demonstrated his ability on the right flank when he provided a superb assist for Anthony Gordon’s opening goal for England against Argentina in the World Cup semi-finals.

While not his preferred side, Rogers’ pace and strength allow him to beat defenders and use his right foot to deliver crosses into the box.

Primarily a goalscorer rather than a creator, he still has the vision to set up teammates, offering Alonso a direct and effective option from the right when needed.

Estevao, though talented, remains young and inconsistent, having yet to play a competitive match following a serious hamstring injury.

Pedro Neto’s future at Chelsea is also uncertain. The Portuguese winger has shown flashes of top-level ability but continues to struggle with consistency in his final output.

Rogers’ inclusion provides Alonso with an additional attacking dimension on the right flank, enhancing Chelsea’s ability to play with greater fluidity and directness, particularly against deep defensive setups.
