UP Free Scooty Scheme: According to the government, the benefits of the Rani Laxmi Bai Scooty Scheme will be available to female students who have completed their graduation. To qualify for the scheme, the family's annual income must be less than ₹12 lakh.

UP Free Scooty Scheme: Many state governments run various schemes to encourage students in their education. Similarly, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant decision for meritorious female students. The Rani Laxmi Bai Scooty Scheme was approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Under this scheme, meritorious female students who have completed their graduation will be provided with a free petrol-powered scooty. This initiative aims to facilitate their commute to college and encourage them to pursue higher education. During the cabinet meeting, a total of 16 major proposals from various departments—including Women's Welfare, Higher Education, Transport, Home, and Cooperation—were approved. The scooty scheme for female students was among the most significant announcements.

Which students will benefit from the scheme?

According to the government, the benefits of the Rani Laxmi Bai Scooty Scheme will be available to female students who have completed their graduation. To qualify for the scheme, the family's annual income must be less than ₹12 lakh. Additionally, the top 5 percent of female students from each university and college will receive this benefit. The government has also clarified that priority will be given to differently-abled female students, daughters of martyrs, and daughters from destitute families. Income limit requirements will be relaxed for these categories.

Aiming to make education easier for female students

The state government states that the primary objective of the scheme is to alleviate transportation-related challenges for female students and encourage them to pursue higher education. The government believes this will provide convenient commuting options, especially for students from remote areas, and reduce the likelihood of them dropping out of their studies.

Government to cover registration fees and vehicle insurance

According to Uttar Pradesh's Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay, the government will bear the cost of registration fees and vehicle insurance. The Minister stated that each beneficiary would receive a scooter along with a helmet, essential accessories, and 5 liters of petrol. Additionally, the Education Minister explained that the government decided to provide petrol-powered scooters because servicing facilities and fuel stations are widely available across the state. He mentioned that the procurement of the scooters would be carried out through a selection process based on proposals invited via a dedicated portal.

Eligibility for the Rani Laxmi Bai Scooty Scheme

To avail the benefits of the Uttar Pradesh government's Rani Laxmi Bai Scooty Scheme, the annual family income of the female student must not exceed ₹12 lakh. Furthermore, the student must be a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh. She must have studied at a recognized college in UP and ranked among the top five students in her college or university during the graduation examination.
