Choosing to bowl first under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, Team India successfully limited Zimbabwe to a modest score of 125 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The hosts struggled, with only Wessly Madhevere (39), Tadiwanashe Marumani (27), and Ryan Burl (29) managing to cross the 20-run mark, as the rest of the batting lineup faltered against India's disciplined bowling attack.

He scored 31 runs off the first 11 balls, achieving a strike rate of 281.81, and continued his onslaught by adding 19 runs in the next seven balls to reach his fifty in just 18 deliveries, marking one of the fastest fifties in T20 international history before being dismissed for 50 runs off 19 balls.
