As Delhi Metro completes its 25 years, it has started major preparations for the future of the capital and NCR. In the coming years, there will be a major expansion of the metro network under Phase-4, Phase-5 and Phase-5A. After the completion of this scheme, 16 new metro corridors will be added, the network will increase by about 217 kilometers and 123 new stations will be ready for passengers. The biggest advantage of this expansion will be that more and more areas of Delhi and NCR will be directly connected to the metro network. Also, with the increase in interchange, the journey of passengers will become easier than before.

Delhi Metro Phase-4: Work going on at a fast pace on 6 new corridors

Under Phase-4, construction on six major metro routes is going on at a rapid pace. Many of these priority corridors can be opened for passengers by the end of this year.

Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg Metro Corridor

22 stations are being built in this 28.92 km long corridor. This will be part of the Magenta Line. After its launch, travel between West Delhi and North Delhi will become much easier and faster.

Tughlakabad-Delhi Aerocity Golden Line

A total of 15 stations are being built on this 23.62 km long new route. Of these, 12 stations will be underground and three will be elevated. This corridor will connect the Violet Line with the Airport Express Line. With this, passengers of Faridabad and South Delhi will get better and direct metro facility till IGI Airport.

Majlis Park-Maujpur Pink Line Extension

This 12.55 kilometer long elevated corridor will have eight stations. Delhi's first double-decker flyover is also being built in this project. Between Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar, road traffic will run on one level and metro train will run on the other level.

Inderlok-Indraprastha Green Line Extension

This 12.37 km long route will strengthen the connectivity between Old Delhi and Central Delhi. After its launch, the passenger pressure at busy interchange stations like Kashmere Gate and Rajiv Chowk is expected to reduce.

Lajpat Nagar-Saket G-Block Extension

This approximately eight kilometer long extension of the Golden Line will connect the major commercial areas and major shopping hubs of South Delhi. This will directly benefit the people visiting this area.

Rithala-Narela-Kundli Red Line Extension

Through this 26.46 km long corridor, areas like Rohini, Bawana and Narela of Delhi will be directly connected to Kundli (Sonipat) of Haryana. With this, travel between Delhi-Haryana will be easier than before.

Delhi Metro Phase-5A: Special focus will be on Airport and Central Delhi

Such corridors have been included in Phase-5A which may be short in length, but their utility will be quite high. In this phase, a new corridor will be built from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, which will provide better connectivity to Central Vista and Bharat Mandapam. Apart from this, new metro routes from Aerocity to Airport Terminal-1 and from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj are also proposed.

Delhi Metro Phase-5B: Major expansion of about 97 kilometers

Phase-5B has been designed as a major expansion. Under this, seven new corridors will be developed in a network approximately 97 kilometers long. These proposed routes include-

• Dhansa Bus Stand-Nangloi
• Central Secretariat-Kishangarh
• Samaypur Badli-Narela
• Kirti Nagar-Palam
• Jorbagh-Meethapur
• Shastri Park-Mayur Vihar Phase-3
• Keshavpuram-Rohini Sector-34

With the construction of these corridors, many such areas of Delhi will be directly connected to the metro network for the first time.

Delhi Metro Interchange Stations: Passengers' journey will become easier

After completion of all these projects, the number of interchange stations in Delhi Metro network will increase from 29 to 55. This will directly benefit the passengers as it will take less time to change between different lines and the journey will become more convenient than before. This expansion of Delhi Metro is not limited to just adding new tracks and stations, but its aim is to provide faster, easier and better public transport to the people of the capital and NCR.
