Guwahati, July 24: On the evening of July 22, over 82,000 residents experienced power outages as devastating floods wreaked havoc across the state, particularly in the upper Assam regions.

Approximately 1,730 distribution transformers and several 11 KV feeders were disconnected due to the disaster.

Additionally, a 33/11 kv substation in Jorhat reported outages, with four 33 kv lines and five 11 kv lines identified as 'faulty' on the same evening, according to a report from the local power distribution company.

Sivasagar was the most severely impacted area, with more than 62,000 consumers affected. Out of about 111,040 consumers in the district, power was restored to 48,100 by Wednesday evening.

In Sivasagar, three 33/11 kv substations and 22 11 kv feeders were disconnected, along with around 1,371 distribution transformers.

Officials stated, “The ongoing heavy rainfall and flooding have necessitated the disconnection of feeders and transformers in various locations. The shutdowns on 33 kv lines are precautionary.”

They urged the public for cooperation, noting that restoration efforts are underway and the situation may improve as conditions on the ground change.

In Jorhat, over 10,700 consumers were also reported to be affected by the flooding as of Wednesday evening.
