A major change has been introduced for candidates preparing for Assistant Professor recruitment in the non-government aided colleges of Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission has released a new pattern for the written examination. Along with an increase in the number of questions, negative marking will also be implemented for the first time. The Commission states that the new pattern will allow for a better assessment of candidates' subject knowledge. Competitive students have also welcomed this change. The Commission is preparing to soon issue a notification for the recruitment of 2,107 Assistant Professors.

How many questions will be asked now?
The format of the Assistant Professor recruitment examination for 330 non-government aided colleges in Uttar Pradesh has been revised. Under the new recruitment process, candidates will have to answer 120 questions during the two-hour examination. Previously, a total of 100 questions were asked. The most significant change is the introduction of negative marking for incorrect answers; one-third of a mark will be deducted for every wrong answer—a provision that did not exist in the previous format.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission, the new question paper will comprise 90 questions from the relevant subject and 30 questions from General Studies (GS). Each question will carry three marks, making the total examination worth 360 marks. In the previously conducted examination, there were 100 questions in total—70 from the subject and 30 from General Knowledge—with each question carrying two marks, resulting in a total of 200 marks.

Increased number of questions will lead to better assessment
Competitive students feel that the new pattern is more balanced. They believe that the syllabus for many subjects is quite vast, and a mere 70 questions were insufficient to accurately assess the entire syllabus. For instance, the Hindi subject requires the study of over 50 books; therefore, increasing the number of questions will facilitate a more comprehensive evaluation.

Recruitment for 2,107 posts coming soon
The Commission has recently initiated the selection process for 111 Principal posts in aided colleges. A recruitment notification will soon be issued for the 2,107 vacant Assistant Professor posts received from the Directorate of Higher Education. The Commission aims to complete the selection process by December.

Additionally, changes have been made to the exam pattern for TGT and PGT recruitment in aided secondary schools. For the first time, questions on General Knowledge will be included alongside the relevant subject, allowing for an assessment of the candidates' overall preparation.
