Breakfast, lunch or dinner, we often think about what to make today. One gets bored with the same old poha, dal-rice, paratha and kheer every day. So, today we are presenting a delicious recipe made from porridge, moong dal, makhana, milk, almonds, poppy seeds and jaggery or sugar candy. This breakfast is rich in nutrition and is quick to prepare, keeping you full for a long time.
Required Materials:
Half cup porridge, 3-4 spoons washed moong dal, 1 cup makhana, 2-3 cups milk, 8-10 almonds, 1-2 spoons poppy seeds (as desired), 1 spoon desi ghee, jaggery powder or sugar candy.
Method of preparation:
Peel the almonds and poppy seeds soaked overnight and make a smooth paste by adding some milk or water in the morning. This increases both the taste and nutrition of breakfast. Then fry the makhanas till they become slightly crisp and keep them aside. Heat ghee in the same pan and fry the moong dal lightly. After this add porridge and fry till it turns golden.
Now add milk and prepared almond-poppy seeds paste in the pan. Mix the mixture well, cover it and cook on low flame for 10-12 minutes. Keep stirring occasionally so that the mixture does not stick to the bottom. When the porridge and pulses are cooked well, add jaggery powder or sugar candy as per taste. Cook for 1-2 minutes and mix well. Finally add roasted makhana and turn off the gas. Add chopped almonds or pistachios on top and serve hot. If you want, you can eat it after cooling it.
Why is this breakfast healthy?
Dalia is rich in fibre, moong dal protein, makhana are rich in calcium and antioxidants, while milk and almonds provide essential nutrients to the body. Apart from providing energy, this breakfast is also beneficial for digestion and bone health.
