India's proposed three-match T20I series against Afghanistan is also likely to be deferred due to the Board of Control for Cricket in India's attempts to finalise the delayed white-ball tour of Bangladesh.

The three T20I matches between India and Afghanistan are currently scheduled to be held in Delhi on September 13, 15, and 17. Since Afghanistan cannot stage international matches within the country due to political reasons, India will host the series.

However, the schedule currently conflicts with the potential tour of Bangladesh by India.

As per the report, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has chalked out a six-match white-ball tour of Bangladesh between the first and the thirteenth of September. Given this, India are not in a position to host the first T20I against Afghanistan as per schedule. Hence, the Afghanistan series might have to be deferred by a couple of days or rescheduled entirely.

Only a tiny gap seems to exist to effect any changes. Following the Asian Games, which is from September 24th, India has a home series against West Indies that is set to begin on the 27th. Fitting the Afghanistan tour in that scenario would affect the other fixtures of the calendar.

India's tour of Bangladesh was initially slated to be held in 2025, but it was stalled following certain security and political issues.

Signs of a breakthrough in diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh could lead to the tour being revived. A recent decision by the Government of India to invite Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to attend the 18th BRICS Summit has instilled hope that BCCI will be given the green light for the series.

The decision to put off the tour earlier came following Bangladesh pulling out of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 that was to be played in India, over perceived security concerns about travelling to the country. ICC did not yield to the request to host the matches at a neutral venue; hence, Bangladesh pulled out of the World Cup.

As per the report, tensions between the two nations mounted following BCCI's recommendation for the release of a Bangladesh pacer from the Kolkata Knight Riders squad for IPL 2026.

No official words from BCCI or the Afghanistan Cricket Board are expected until the final confirmation from the respective board on the tour of Bangladesh.
