Patna. Relief news has emerged for the government employees of West Bengal. The state government has indicated that work is being done rapidly towards implementing the 7th State Pay Commission within the current financial year. Along with this, assurance has also been given of phased increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and payment of pending arrears. After this announcement, new hope has arisen among lakhs of government employees and pensioners.

7th Pay Commission may be implemented within the financial year

According to the government, the necessary process for the 7th State Pay Commission is almost complete. The scope of work of the commission is being finalized, after which further action will be taken on its recommendations. The state government is trying to implement the new salary system during the current financial year itself. For a long time, employee organizations were demanding the formation of a new pay commission and wage revision. In such a situation, this step is considered important for the employees.

DA will increase, but in a phased manner

The state government has clarified that there will be no lump sum increase in dearness allowance. Instead, a plan has been made to reduce the gap between central and state government employees by gradually increasing DA. Recently, the state government had increased the dearness allowance to 38 percent of the basic salary in its budget. Now there is a possibility of further increase in it in a phased manner.

Confidence also given on pending arrears payment

The government has also assured the employees that the long pending DA arrears will also be paid in a phased manner. The major demands of the employee organizations included outstanding DA and formation of a new pay commission. The latest stance of the government is being considered as a positive step towards these demands.

Why is this decision important for the employees?

Many government employees of West Bengal are still receiving salaries under the old Pay Commission system. On the other hand, Central Government employees have been taking benefits of the 7th Central Pay Commission for a long time and now the process of 8th Central Pay Commission is also progressing.
