Soya Sticks Recipe: Children’s light appetite in the evening often results in cravings for chips, French fries or packaged snacks. However, due to the high amount of salt, oil and preservatives in them, eating them daily is not considered good for health. In such a situation, if you want to make a tasty and nutritious snack at home, then soya sticks can be a great option. These are crunchy from outside and soft from inside, which children eat with great enthusiasm.
The special thing about soya sticks is that they contain abundant amount of protein, which helps in the growth and muscle development of children. Also, these can be easily prepared from common ingredients present in the house. If you want to make something new for children’s tiffin, evening tea or weekend snack, then definitely try this recipe.
Ingredients to make Soya Sticks
- 1 cup soya granules (or soya chunks powder)
- 2 boiled potatoes (mashed)
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 2 tbsp corn flour
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder (according to children)
- 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp chaat masala
- 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander
- salt as per taste
- Oil for frying or air frying
How to make Soya Sticks
prepare soya
First of all, soak the soya granules in hot water for 8-10 minutes. After this, squeeze the water thoroughly so that excess moisture is removed. If using soya chunks, grind them to form a coarse mixture.
prepare the mixture
In a large bowl, add soya, mashed potatoes, bread crumbs, corn flour, ginger-garlic paste, spices, salt and coriander and mix well. If the mixture seems too wet, add a little more bread crumbs.
shape into sticks
Take small portions of the prepared mixture and shape them into long sticks with the help of your fingers. Place all the sticks in a plate and keep them in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes, so that they get set and do not break while frying.
cook until crisp
Heat oil in a pan and fry the sticks on medium flame until golden and crisp. If you want a healthy option, you can also bake them in air fryer at 180 degrees Celsius for 12-15 minutes or in the oven. Don’t forget to turn once in the middle.
serving method
Serve hot soya sticks with tomato ketchup, green chutney, curd dip or cheese dip. These can also be easily packed in children’s tiffin boxes. Sprinkling some chaat masala on top further enhances their taste.
