Due to torrential downpours and heavy rains in the state of Gujarat, severe flooding has occurred in many areas. Flood-like conditions and waterlogging have affected normal life as well as business. The current last date for filing Income Tax returns for the financial year 2026-27 is 31 July. Due to this natural calamity and dire circumstances, many traders and taxpayers of the state are not in a position to file their returns within the stipulated time frame.

Submission to CBDT for extension of 15 days

An important step has been taken in view of this serious difficulty faced by traders and tax consultants. State traders and CA have jointly sent an official letter to the Central Board of Direct Taxes i.e. CBDT. The letter has strongly demanded an extension of at least 15 days in the period for filing income tax returns in view of the heavy rains and flood conditions. So that the distressed taxpayers can get relief and avoid penalty or interest.

Now everyone meet on the final decision of CBDT

After this reasonable demand of the traders, now the eyes of the taxpayers and the business community of the entire state are fixed on the next decision of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) of the Central Government. If a positive decision is not taken by the system on time, thousands of traders may face huge difficulties in paying taxes. It remains to be seen what the government’s response to this extension is, but for now, news of relief is being eagerly awaited among the business class.
