Healthy Samosa Recipe: A cup of strong ginger tea and hot crunchy samosas in the evening is a different pleasure, but many times people with healthy eating habits avoid eating samosas. If you also follow a healthy diet, then traditional potato samosas are not the right option for you.
Generally samosa is made from flour and is deep fried, which increases the amount of calories and fat in it. Therefore, today we are telling you the method of making healthy and tasty samosa from ragi (finger millet) flour. Apart from being delicious, it is also full of nutrition.
Why choose ragi instead of flour?
Ragi is also called finger millet. Ragi is an excellent source of fiber, calcium, iron and many essential nutrients. Ragi is more nutritious than flour and helps in keeping the stomach full for a long time. Therefore, ragi is a good option to make your favorite dish like samosas healthy.
Ingredients to make Ragi Samosa
to prepare the dough
- 1 cup ragi flour
- A little flour (for binding)
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp fennel
- salt as per taste
- 1 tablespoon hot oil
- water as per need
for stuffing
- 1 cup boiled and mashed potatoes
- ½ cup green peas
- 1 finely chopped onion
- 3 finely chopped green chillies
- 1 tsp cumin
- a pinch of turmeric powder
- 2 tsp tamarind pulp
- salt as per taste
- oil as required
Prepare Delicious Stuffing
First of all, heat some oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds in it. After the cumin seeds crackle, add green chillies and finely chopped onion and fry till it turns golden.
Now add turmeric, salt, boiled potatoes and green peas and mix well. After cooking for a few minutes, add tamarind pulp and mix all the ingredients well. Keep the prepared stuffing aside to cool.
knead ragi flour
In a large bowl, add ragi flour, some all-purpose flour, cumin, fennel, salt and hot oil and mix well. Now add water slowly and knead a soft and smooth dough. Cover the dough and keep it aside for 10-15 minutes.
shape into samosas
Make small balls of dough and roll each ball into a thin puri. Now cut it from the middle and give it a cone shape. Fill the prepared potato stuffing and seal the edges well, so that the stuffing does not come out while frying.
Fry until golden and crisp
Heat oil in a pan. When the oil is hot, slowly add the prepared samosas and fry on medium flame until they become golden and crisp. After frying, take out the samosas on kitchen tissue to remove excess oil. You can also bake it to make it more healthy.
Now serve samosas made from ragi with mint chutney, tamarind chutney or hot masala tea.
