New Delhi: Indian athletes will look to continue the medal rush on Monday, July 27, after adding three medals to the country’s tally on Sunday. Indian weightlifters enjoyed a stellar outing on Sunday, bagging three medals, including a gold, to extend India’s tally to four medals in the ongoing competition.
Mirabai Chanu won India’s first gold medal in CWG 2026 after finishing on top of the podium in the women’s 48kg category. It was a historic gold for Mirabai as she became the first weightlifter in the history of the Commonwealth Games to win a gold medal in three successive editions of the competition.
Besides Mirabai’s gold, India also won two silver medals in weightlifting. India’s Rishikanta Singh won silver in the men’s 60kg category while Raja Muthupandi won a silver medal in the men’s 65kg category in Glasgow. With three medals on Monday, India reached four medals overall at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
Focus on weightlifters on July 27The focus will once again be on the Indian weightlifters on Monday, July 27, as three of them will be in contention for medals. India’s Gyaneshwari Yadav (women’s 53kg), Bindyarani Devi (women’s 58kg) and Ajaya Babu (men’s 79kg) will compete in their respective categories and will be hoping to add to India’s medal tally.
Indian athletes will also be in action across multiple athletics events. Olympian Murali Sreeshankar will begin his campaign in the men’s long jump qualification round, while Tejas Shirse will compete in the men’s 110m hurdles. Gurindervir Singh will be in action in the men’s 100m heats.
Tejaswin Shankar, Sarvesh Anil Kushare and Aadarsh Ram Jothi Shankar will take part in the men’s high jump final later in the evening. Meanwhile, Indian boxers will also be in action at the CWG 2026 on Monday. Sachin (60kg), Ankush (80kg), Sakshi (51kg), and Sumit (70kg) will all take part in their round-of-16 matches in their respective categories.
