While jewellery and outfits steal the spotlight at most weddings, statement bags are quietly taking over, becoming every bride’s must-have accessory. From potlis and pearl bags to bejewelled and customised versions, this is the season of statement bags. Stylist Aayushi Shah says, “Today’s brides put a lot of thought into every look, so their choice of accessories and bags is also different. They wouldn’t want to go for a mass-produced bag. Brides today pick statement pieces over mass products.”

‘Blending glamour with functionality’

Today, brides and bridesmaids seek bags that blend glamour with functionality. Shruti Desai, a bag designer, says, “There is a strong preference for ergonomic handles, detachable chains, and lightweight designs that allow them to dance freely. The mindset has shifted from buying a one-time use accessory to investing in versatile, statement heirloom pieces that can be styled long after the festivities end.” Over the years, a clear shift towards bespoke bags for brides has been noticed. Princy Sanghvi, who makes customised bags, says,
“Today, accessories are no longer an afterthought but a major focal point. Brides view their bags as wearable art that reflects their personal style while serving a functional purpose.” She adds, “Celebs opting for minimalist yet richly detailed ivory, pastel, and metallic ensembles have popularised monochromatic embroidery and pearlencrusted bags.”

‘The ultimate conversation starter’

Gen Z brides bring a distinctly bold, experimental energy to their accessory choices. Shruti says, “While millennials often seek bags that match their outfits, Gen Z loves high-contrast styling, gravitating towards quirky details, avantgarde shapes, conscious luxury, and pieces that tell an authentic story. For Gen Z, the statement bag is the ultimate conversation starter, and they aren’t afraid to pair a traditional heavy lehenga with a modern, metallic geometric clutch.” Adds fashion designer Afsha Noor, “Embellished minaudières, pearl-detailed bags, and modern potlis are popular this season. Structured box clutches with interesting textures or motifs are also trending.”
