Jadon Sancho may be on the verge of an unexpected switch to Qatar after Al-Rayyan put in an offer to sign him, according to Foot Mercato.

The England international has been without a club since his Manchester United contract ended on July 1, which has left him free to speak with interested teams.

Al-Rayyan are looking to use that opening by convincing the 26-year-old to start the next phase of his career in the Middle East.

Sancho has also drawn interest from Atletico Madrid, while a return to Borussia Dortmund had earlier been discussed after his successful spells in Germany.

The Qatari side feel they have a real chance to land one of the most recognisable free agents currently on the market.

Sancho’s career has changed sharply since his headline £73 million transfer to United in 2021.

After making himself one of Europe’s most exciting talents at BVB, where he scored 54 goals and provided 45 assists in 188 appearances, expectations were extremely high when he came back to England.

But he found it hard to reproduce that level in the Premier League.

Loan spells followed, including a return to Dortmund and another stint at Chelsea, but neither produced a permanent answer.

A move to Al-Rayyan would give Sancho a fresh beginning and the chance to emerge as one of the Qatar Stars League’s biggest names.

However, he is said to want to remain in Europe, even if that requires taking a lower salary to join a top club.
