The government says that this step has been taken to reduce inflationary pressure and keep transportation costs under control.

Diesel will be available cheaper till 6th August

Italy’s cabinet on Monday approved a special order, under which the excise tax on diesel will be reduced by 17 euro cents per liter till August 6. The transport sector, farmers and general consumers are expected to benefit the most from this decision, because fuel prices have been continuously increasing in recent times.

Meloni said- it was necessary to give relief

Prime Minister Georgia Meloni said on the social media platform He said that this decision is not the solution to the entire problem, but it is a necessary step to provide immediate relief to the people. He also assured that the government is constantly monitoring the situation.

Government will be burdened with 125 million euros

Italy’s Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said that the government will have to bear additional expenses of about 125 million euros on diesel tax cuts and relief schemes for truck drivers and farmers.

He said that if energy prices remain high, additional relief measures like reducing electricity and gas bills will also be considered in the cabinet meeting to be held on August 4.

Concern increased due to energy crisis

The government says that the energy crisis is affecting countries like Italy and Germany more because their economies are largely dependent on industries and fossil fuels. Due to the ongoing tension in the Middle East, the prices of oil and gas have increased, due to which there is a possibility of inflation increasing further.
