India is on the verge of appointing a new assistant coach as Ryan ten Doeschate has reportedly stepped down from his role after a disappointing tour in the UK. The Indian team began their tour with consecutive losses against Ireland in a two-match T20I series.
Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the team faced a 4-0 defeat in the five-match T20I series against England, with the first match being abandoned due to rain.
Following the T20I series, India managed to secure a victory in the opening match of the three-match ODI series but subsequently lost the next two games, resulting in a 2-1 series defeat. Just a week after this setback, reports from ESPNcricinfo indicate that Doeschate has resigned from his position as assistant coach. He is expected to return to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Doeschate initially joined KKR as a fielding coach prior to the IPL 2023 season and continued in this role after Gautam Gambhir became the team's mentor for IPL 2024. Known to be a close associate of Gambhir, Doeschate left KKR alongside the former Indian opener.
Gambhir had selected Doeschate to join India's coaching staff for 2024. While Gambhir was appointed as head coach until the 2027 ODI World Cup, Doeschate received a two-year contract alongside bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, who was dismissed after the 2025 Champions Trophy.
