Guwahati. Reliance Foundation has launched a relief campaign to help the people affected by heavy rains and flash floods in Upper Assam. Under the campaign, assistance to food, safe drinking water, ration, health and temporary shelter will be provided to at least 10 thousand families of Sivasagar and Charaideo districts. More than five lakh people have been affected by the floods in both the districts.

Reliance Foundation’s disaster management team along with the district administration and local organizations have started relief operations after assessing the affected areas. Vantara, Reliance Retail and Jio are also cooperating in this campaign.

Community kitchens are being run for those families who do not have food or ration facilities. Along with this, dry ration packets will also be distributed. Emergency shelter kits consisting of tarpaulin, groundsheet, mosquito net, rope and bedding are being arranged for the displaced families. Health services have been affected due to floods. To quickly restore health services, cleaning and repair of community health centers has been started. Clean drinking water and necessary kits to cleanliness are also being provided to the affected families.

In view of the damage caused to the pet animals, a 39-member team of Vantara has also been deployed on the spot. Along with treating and caring for the animals, the team will also help other animals in the local community. Reliance Foundation has planned to provide fodder to about 4 thousand affected cattle.

To ensure that relief material reaches the needy families, the Foundation’s teams are working closely with the district administration, government departments, local institutions and partner organizations.
