Mutual Fund SIP Calculator: Building a corpus of ₹1 crore is a dream for many. This is because wealth accumulation accelerates rapidly after the first crore is achieved. But can an average person earning ₹50,000 a month really build a ₹1 crore corpus?

Financial experts say it is entirely possible, provided you remain invested for the long term with discipline, patience, and the right strategy. Let’s understand the math behind becoming a crorepati through SIPs.

How to build a ₹1 crore fund with a ₹50,000 salary?

Kiran Gandhi, Director at KAARMIKA Wealth Mentors, states that even with a monthly income of ₹50,000, one can become a crorepati through disciplined investing. He outlines a few essential rules for this:

Invest 20-30% of your salary: Allocate at least 20% to 30% of your monthly income to mutual fund SIPs.

Step-up SIP: Increase your SIP investment by 10% to 15% annually whenever your salary rises.

Maintain an emergency fund: Keep a separate emergency fund to prevent your investments from being disrupted, and avoid unnecessary debt.

Don't chase high returns: Instead of merely chasing high returns, focus on asset allocation and review your portfolio annually.

SIP Calculator: The math behind ₹12,000 per month

According to Kiran Gandhi, if you start an SIP of ₹12,000 per month and assume an average annual return of 12%, your fund will grow to approximately ₹1 crore in about 20 years.

If you opt for a 'step-up SIP'—increasing your SIP amount by just 10% each year—this goal of ₹1 crore can be achieved well before the 20-year mark. Based on this calculation, becoming a crorepati (millionaire) with a monthly salary of ₹50,000 is not an impossible dream. It simply requires the right strategy, discipline, and time. If you start a disciplined SIP of ₹10,000 to ₹12,000 for a period of 15–20 years—starting as early as age 25–30—the goal of accumulating ₹1 crore can be easily achieved through the power of compounding.

The number of active SIP accounts has risen to 9.78 crore, up from 8.64 crore a year ago.
