The Indian Women's Hockey Team embarked on its journey to Europe early Wednesday morning, gearing up for the FIH Hockey World Cup scheduled in Belgium and the Netherlands from August 15 to 30, 2026.
Final Preparations in Europe
The squad traveled from Bengaluru to Mumbai before catching a flight to Frankfurt, Germany. Here, they will engage in the final preparations for the prestigious FIH event. During their time in Frankfurt, the team is set to play two practice matches against Germany on July 31 and August 1, aimed at refining their strategies and acclimatizing to the European environment.
Continuing Preparations in the Netherlands
After the training camp, the team will head to Amsterdam on August 2 to further their World Cup preparations. India is scheduled to kick off its campaign against China on August 16, followed by matches against South Africa and England in Pool D.
Captain's Confidence
Before their departure, captain Salima Tete expressed her confidence in the team's readiness, stating, "The entire squad is looking forward to the challenge ahead. We've had a good training block, and now it's about carrying that momentum into the practice matches and then the World Cup. Facing China in our opening game will be an important test, and we want to start the tournament on a positive note. As a team, we are determined to give our best and make the country proud."
With extensive preparation and crucial training sessions in Germany, including two matches against the hosts, the team is eager to make a strong start.
Men's Team Reveals New Jersey
In a related development, the Indian men's hockey team recently unveiled their new jersey ahead of the FIH Men's Hockey World Cup, also set to take place in Belgium and the Netherlands this year.
The men's tournament is scheduled from August 14 to 30, 2026. India secured direct entry into the competition after clinching victory in the men's Asia Cup held domestically last year.
