Kanwar Yatra Home Puja: The holy month of Saavan is going to start from tomorrow, which will continue till the day of Saavan Purnima on 28th August. With the beginning of Sawan, Kanwar Yatra will also start from tomorrow itself. Kanwar Yatra is considered very special in Sawan. In this, devotees of Lord Shiva bring water from holy rivers to Kanwar and perform Jalabhishek of Mahadev in temples and pagodas. With the beginning of Sawan, Kanwar Yatra will also start from tomorrow itself. Although Kanwar Yatra continues throughout the month of Saavan, but mainly the importance of Kanwar Yatra remains only till Shivratri of the month of Saavan.
This year the festival of Sawan Shivratri will be celebrated on 11th August. Kanwar Yatra will end on this day. Every devotee of Lord Shiva waits for the Kanwar Yatra, but many devotees are not able to be a part of the Kanwar Yatra. According to religious scriptures, perform Jalabhishek only on Narmadeshwar Shivling at home. This Shivalinga is found in the Narmada river. Through this, this Shivalinga can be identified.
Method of Jalabhishek
Get up in the morning in Brahma Muhurta, take bath and wear clean clothes. Lord Shiva likes white and blue colors, so try to wear clothes of these colors. After this, sit facing north or east. Keep the Shivalinga of the house in a clean place. Fill a copper or brass pot with pure water or Ganga water. If Ganga water is not available, fill the pot with water from any holy river or pond. Then while chanting the mantra “Om Namah Shivay”, slowly offer water on the Shivalinga. After offering water, offer Belpatra, Dhatura, Akshat and white sandalwood. At last perform Aarti of Lord Shiva.
