Saltburn Cricket Club has suspended Brian Devine, better known as 'Clicky Ponting', after videos emerged online of him reportedly cheating in club games. The videos posted on social media showed what appeared to be Devine mimicking the sound of the ball originating from the edge of the bat, leading umpires to give batters out.
Caused a great uproar throughout the cricket community and huge criticism from not just fans but players too. The alleged act has currently resulted in disciplinary action from Saltburn CC while the league is still attempting its formal investigation.

Saltburn Cricket Club issued a statement of official confirmation that has Devine back. The statement also revealed that the club have suspended the 23-year-old with immediate effect and that he will not represent the club for the rest of the season or any time in the near future while the investigation is being conducted.
The statement said :
"We have taken this allegation very seriously and, as a family-run Club, are working closely with the league's investigation."
They further stated :
"We feel that once the complaint and investigation were brought to our attention, the Club responded promptly.The player concerned has been suspended and will not be representing the Club again this season or in the near future while this enquiry is ongoing."

The row is occurring after Saltburn's recent game against Shildon Railway CC saw Saltburn's second team wicketkeeper take eight catches. There have also been reports in the past of Saltburn's wicketkeeper taking nearly 4 catches a game over the course of 8 games this season, adding further controversy following the popular videos online.
Sponsor Withdraws Support as Investigation Continues
However, outside of the game, Devine has experienced the fallout from the controversy. It is reported that Spices, the Indian restaurant that sponsored him locally, has pulled out as his sponsor after the allegations.
The 2nd XI at Saltburn have also lost their planned cup game away to Marton.
The league is still investigating the claims and Saltburn Cricket Club has stated that it will co-operate fully with the investigation. Devine will be suspended until the investigation is completed, and the club has decided not to comment any further.
One of the biggest talking points in club cricket has been the incident, and everyone wonders what action the league will take once they have done their investigation.
