Election Commission Extends Voter List Revision Deadlines in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

The Election Commission has announced an extension for the 'Special Intensive Revision' (SIR) of the voter list in Telangana, setting the final publication date to October 19, 2026. The qualifying date will be considered as October 1, 2026. This decision follows a formal request from the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana, who sought additional time to complete the voter count. According to the revised schedule issued by ECI Secretary Pawan Diwan, the task of gathering information door-to-door by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and organizing polling stations has now been extended until August 10, 2026.

The Election Commission has stated that the draft voter list will be published on August 17, 2026. Voters will have a month, from August 17 to September 16, 2026, to file claims and objections. Additionally, the resolution of claims and objections will take place between August 17 and October 15, 2026, with the final voter list for Telangana being released on October 19, 2026. The EC has instructed state election officials to ensure widespread dissemination of the updated dates through all media channels and to formally notify all political parties in writing.

In related developments, the Election Commission released the draft voter list for Andhra Pradesh on Friday, following the completion of the counting phase under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). During this process, 3.71 crore voters submitted their counting forms, revealing that 1.52 million voters were deceased. According to information from the Chief Electoral Officer's office, out of a total of 41,627,694 voters in the state, 37,138,182 voters (approximately 89.22 percent) submitted their counting forms during the counting phase, which lasted from June 15 to July 24.

In another development, the Election Commission has also extended the deadline for filing claims and objections related to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Odisha from August 4 to August 19. This decision was made at the request of the Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha. The revision is currently being conducted with July 1, 2026, as the qualifying date. According to a notification released by the commission on Friday, the period for filing claims and objections, originally set to end on August 4, has now been extended to August 19.
