New Delhi: India’s challenge at the Taipei Open Super 300 will continue into the final after teenage shuttler Tanvi Sharma produced another impressive performance to book her place in the women’s singles title clash. However, Unnati Hooda’s campaign came to an end after she lost her semi-final against Vietnam’s Thuy Linh Nguyen on Saturday.

The 17-year-old Tanvi looked in complete control as she defeated Chinese Taipei’s Huang Yu-Hsun 21-17, 21-11 in just 33 minutes. The victory keeps her on course for a maiden BWF World Tour title after finishing runner-up at last year’s US Open Super 300.

The Junior World Championships silver medallist once again showed why she is regarded as one of India’s brightest young talents. Tanvi mixed powerful cross-court smashes with clever drop shots and accurate pushes to keep World No. 24 Huang under constant pressure.

She maintained a slight advantage throughout the opening game before pulling away in the closing stages to take it 21-17. Huang briefly matched Tanvi in the second game, making it 9-9 but the Indian quickly raised her level and won 12 of the last 14 points to seal a comfortable victory.

Tanvi will now face Vietnam’s sixth seed Thuy Linh Nguyen in Sunday’s final. The youngster has enjoyed an impressive rise over the last two years, winning the Bonn International in 2024 and the Denmark Challenge in 2025, while also finishing runner-up at the Odisha Masters and Guwahati Masters in 2025.

It could have been an all-Indian final, but Unnati Hooda went down 15-21, 18-21 against World No. 21 Nguyen. The Vietnamese player took charge of the opening game with her accurate placement and consistent attacking play.

Unnati responded strongly in the second game, racing to a 5-0 lead and later extending it to 16-12. However, Nguyen fought back by increasing the pace of the rallies and forcing errors from the Indian. She eventually closed out the match with a sharp interception at the net to secure her place in the final.

Despite Unnati’s exit, India will have plenty to cheer for as Tanvi Sharma gets the chance to lift her first BWF World Tour title on Sunday.
