New Delhi: Marvel Studios has officially unveiled Black Panther 3 at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, confirming that the highly anticipated superhero film will hit theatres on December 15, 2028.

Studio President Kevin Feige and director Ryan Coogler announced during the Hall H presentation, where they also revealed a major casting update. British actor David Jonsson has been cast as the adult version of T’Challa’s son, who is expected to inherit the mantle of the next Black Panther.

David Jonsson Joins the MCU

Jonsson appeared on stage alongside Kevin Feige and Ryan Coogler after the announcement and received an enthusiastic welcome from fans. Addressing the audience, the actor expressed his gratitude for becoming part of the Marvel family.

The actor has steadily gained recognition through projects such as Alien: Romulus, The Long Walk and the television series Industry. His casting marks a new era for one of Marvel’s most iconic franchises.

A New Direction for the Black Panther Saga

The storyline builds on the ending of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), which introduced T’Challa and Nakia’s young son. With Jonsson portraying the character as an adult, the upcoming film is expected to feature a significant time jump or another narrative development to explain the character’s evolution.

Marvel also confirmed that the film will be released after Avengers: Secret Wars, placing it within the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Continuing Chadwick Boseman’s Legacy

The original Black Panther (2018), starring the late Chadwick Boseman, became a global phenomenon and earned widespread critical acclaim. Following Boseman’s death in 2020, Marvel chose not to recast T’Challa. Instead, Wakanda Forever shifted its focus to Shuri while honouring the legacy of the beloved character.

With a new Black Panther preparing to step forward, Marvel is set to begin another chapter in Wakanda’s story while continuing to celebrate the legacy that made the franchise one of the studio’s biggest successes.
