Canada and India both completed successful campaigns at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, finishing third and fourth respectively in the official medal standings. Australia dominated the competition with 70 gold, 45 silver and 56 bronze medals for a total of 171, while England placed second with 29 gold and 110 medals overall.
Canada finished third with 62 medals, including 19 gold, 20 silver and 23 bronze. India followed in fourth place with 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze medals for a total of 39. Host nation Scotland also collected 39 medals and 13 golds, but India placed ahead because it won 17 silver medals compared with Scotland’s nine. The results are confirmed by the official Glasgow 2026 final medal table.
The difference between Canada and India was 23 total medals and six gold medals. Canada’s success was distributed across athletics, artistic gymnastics, judo, swimming and weightlifting. India’s performance was more concentrated, with boxing accounting for seven of its 13 gold medals, alongside major breakthroughs in judo, weightlifting and Para athletics.
Canada collected 16 medals in athletics, consisting of four gold, seven silver and five bronze. Olympic champions Ethan Katzberg and Camryn Rogers completed a Canadian sweep of the hammer throw titles. Katzberg established a Commonwealth Games record of 80.97 metres in the men’s competition, while Rogers broke the women’s Games record with a throw of 74.91 metres. Sarah Mitton added another Canadian throwing gold with a winning mark of 19.88 metres in the women’s shot put. Team Canada confirmed the athletics results.
Canada was also one of the leading countries in artistic gymnastics. The Canadian men won the team competition, while Ellie Black captured the women’s individual all around title. Black became the first woman to win the Commonwealth Games all around championship twice. Félix Dolci emerged as one of Canada’s biggest individual stars, leaving Glasgow with four gold medals, one silver and one bronze. Canada ultimately topped the artistic gymnastics medal table with seven gold medals.
Canadian athletes delivered another strong performance in judo, winning seven medals, including four gold. Julien Frescadore, Kyle Reyes, Evelyn Beaton and Laurence Biron won their respective divisions. Guillaume Gaulin and Heidi Quach captured silver, while Coralie Godbout earned bronze. The judo results demonstrated the breadth of Canada’s campaign beyond the more prominent athletics, swimming and gymnastics competitions.
Weightlifting produced eight additional medals for Canada. Maude Charron won the women’s 63 kilogram competition and secured her third consecutive Commonwealth Games title. Charlotte Simoneau captured gold in the women’s 69 kilogram division, while Alex Bellemarre and Ann Sophie Taschereau won silver. Canada also collected four weightlifting bronze medals.
India’s defining success came in boxing, where the country delivered its best performance in Commonwealth Games history. Indian boxers won 10 medals, including seven gold and three silver, and finished first in the sport’s medal table. No country had previously won seven boxing gold medals at a single Commonwealth Games. Commonwealth Sport confirmed India’s record boxing performance.
India’s women were responsible for five of those boxing titles. Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas and Arundhati Choudhary all became Commonwealth champions. Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal added two more gold medals in the men’s competition. Jadumani Singh, Lovlina Borgohain and Narender Berwal earned silver medals.
Judo provided another historic moment for India. Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh won the country’s first Commonwealth Games judo gold medals. Dey defeated Canada’s Heidi Quach in the women’s 48 kilogram final, while Singh captured the men’s 60 kilogram title after returning from a serious knee injury. Yamini Mourya added a silver medal, and Unnati Sharma earned bronze. Commonwealth Sport described the two victories as India’s first Commonwealth judo titles.
Mirabai Chanu remained one of India’s most dependable champions, winning the women’s 48 kilogram weightlifting title for her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold. Indian weightlifters also claimed several silver and bronze medals, while the athletics team delivered important results through Murali Sreeshankar, Neeraj Chopra, Gulveer Singh, Praveen Chithravel and other competitors.
India’s Para athletes contributed seven medals, including three gold, in what organizers described as an impressive campaign. Sharmila Dhankar, Dilip Gavit and Soman Rana won Para athletics titles, while Jhandu Kumar earned bronze in Para powerlifting. The performance suggested that India’s medal potential is expanding beyond its traditional strengths.
The overall results tell two different but encouraging stories. Canada demonstrated greater depth across the reduced Glasgow sports programme and remained among the Commonwealth’s three leading sporting nations. India finished with fewer medals, but its record boxing campaign, first judo championships and improving Para results provided evidence of progress across several disciplines.
Attention will now turn toward the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Amdavad, also known as Ahmedabad. India will host the competition for the second time after Delhi in 2010. The event will also celebrate 100 years since the first Commonwealth Games were held in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930, creating a symbolic connection between the two countries that finished directly beside each other in Glasgow.
Glasgow 2026 brought together more than 3,000 athletes and Para athletes representing 74 nations and territories. A total of 215 titles were decided across 10 sports. Australia topped the final table, but Canada’s third place finish and India’s historic achievements made both countries central to the story of the Games.
