Guwahati. Seven districts in Assam are still severely affected by floods. The affected districts include Charaideo, Sivasagar, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Biswanath, Jorhat, and Lakhimpur.
A total of 128,071 people in 380 villages across 24 revenue divisions in these districts are affected by the floods, and 14,230,148 hectares of agricultural land is submerged.
The devastation caused by the floods is primarily felt in four districts of Upper Assam: Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat. The situation is the worst in Sivasagar district.
Water and mud are still clogging people’s homes and roads. Along with the government, voluntary organizations and individuals are reaching out to the affected areas to assist with relief efforts.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has been camping in Upper Assam since August 2nd and is monitoring all aspects to expedite the relief work.
According to data from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on August 3, the Dhansiri River (Numaligarh) is still flowing above the danger mark in the area.
Meanwhile, two more bodies were recovered from Sivasagar district on Monday, bringing the total number of flood- deaths in the state to 87.
The government has operationalized a total of 55 relief camps, including 38 relief camps and 17 relief distribution centers, for flood-affected people. 11,066 people are sheltering in relief camps, while 184 non-camp residents are receiving relief at relief distribution centers.
The SDRF, Army/Paramilitary Forces, NDRF, DDRF, Air Force, Police, Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), Circle Offices/Local Administrations, Civil Defence/Trained Volunteers, and the Fire Department are engaged in flood relief and rescue operations.
Meanwhile, the state government deployed a total of 76 medical teams in flood-affected areas on Saturday. During this time, 23 boats were also engaged in relief work.
The floods have caused extensive damage to roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. The government is regularly conducting review meetings to assess the situation and ensure repairs.
