Government Hospitals: The Health Department has once again taken a strict stance regarding the safety of patients, attendants, and healthcare workers in government hospitals. Expressing displeasure over the continued presence of stray dogs and other animals on hospital premises, all Chief Medical Officers (CMOs), hospital directors, and superintendents have been directed to launch a fresh campaign. It has also been clarified that action will be taken against the concerned officials if negligence is found.
Director General of Health Pawan Kumar Arun has sent a letter to all Chief Medical Officers, hospital directors, and superintendents, instructing them to keep hospital premises free of stray dogs and animals. Officials have been asked to coordinate with local municipal bodies and conduct regular campaigns to ensure the safety of hospital premises.
Security will be strengthened
The directives place special emphasis on strengthening security measures such as hospital entrances, boundary walls, and fences. This aims to ensure that stray dogs and other animals do not enter the hospital premises and maintain the safety of patients and attendants.
The Health Department has also directed all government hospitals to ensure adequate availability of anti-rabies injections so that anyone bitten by a dog can receive treatment without delay. The department has asked for this to be made a mandatory part of hospitals’ routine procedures.
Previously Issued Instructions
In January, the then Director General of Health, Dr. Ratan Pal Singh Suman, also issued instructions to all health officials in this regard. Nodal officers were appointed at that time in hospitals, but the problem of stray dogs and animals persisted in many locations. Consequently, the government has once again taken a firm stance.
The Director General of Health has clearly stated that laxity at any level in this campaign will not be tolerated. All officials must responsibly follow the instructions. If negligence is found in any hospital, action will be taken against the concerned officials as per the rules.
